  Evaluation Research

Conceptual Frameworks and Methodologies

The Alcohol & Public Health Research Unit has achieved considerable experience in the evaluation of a range of public health initiatives and has developed an epistemology of evaluation for health promotion programmes in New Zealand, drawing on the academic literature and its own research.

A number of papers have been published in refereed journals discussing concepts of evaluation and methodological issues. These include community based alcohol harm reduction initiatives such as the Community Action Project (1982-85) (Stewart & Casswell 1993) and the Liquor Licensing Project (Stewart et al. 1993), and other health promotion programmes such as Heartbeat New Zealand (Dehar et al. 1993a; Dehar et al. 1992a; Dehar et al. 1992b).
